We are starting our new term on the 30th January with an exciting new theme of “Songs from around the World” to take us through 2020.
Singing songs with this theme will allow us a glimpse into different musical genres both traditional and contemporary. It connects people with diverse cultures from all around the world, and reflects our philosophy of embracing this diversity within our local community. For those who don't know us - We are open to all as a non-auditioning, affordable, all-inclusive community choir. “We encourage anyone to come along, even if you’ve never sung before - you don’t need to be able to read music, or have any prior experience.” Song leader, Helen Diaz, continues “Harmony singing in a group provides an opportunity for an authentic, interactive musical experience… a [tradition] probably as old as human culture.” Many sociocultural studies have also proven that engaging in inclusive community group singing boosts the wellbeing of all those involved, both physically & mentally. The beginning of the year is the perfect time to come along and try it out. LVC sessions are on Thursday evenings, 7 till 9pm during terms at the Wellsford District Community Centre. Term 1 begins on 30th January with a free taster session for new singers. Please email singlvc@gmail.com for more details. Website: https://www.lvcwellsford.co.nz/

'At Christmas Time' Concert 14th December 2019
Wellsford District Community Centre LVC were grateful to receive generous funding from Foundation North, and Pub Charities, which enabled them to offer this family friendly event, including a delicious supper, free to all. It was a very successful event with over 150 locals attending. The free supper was provided thanks to the generous donations of local businesses for the food. LVC had been working on a New Zealand theme all year, being ignited by the national ‘New Zealand Music Month’ project in May. The musical offerings were all written by New Zealanders, some local even, and are inspired by our beautiful land. The Local Vocals shared the stage with students from A+ Music Tuition from Wellsford, and a local ukelele duo Oh Billie, who both performed New Zealand songs as well. We are proud to have shared the culmination of our years work, and to bring community together through song. Helen sent these video links of vocal cords in action!
